Food justice is an important part of Jesus' call to feed the hungry. For more than 30 years, our church has hosted the Lunch Together Soup Kitchen. Knowing we are at our best when we work together, this is a cooperative between area churches and organizations. A nutritious lunch is served Monday-Friday at noon.
We actively seek to understand the challenges of "justice for all" through educational opportunities. Our church sponsored a trip to Heart Mountain, the site where Japanese-Americans were interned. Partnering with the Brinton Museum, we sponsored a lecture on Northern Cheyenne Spirituality. Church folks collect warm winter clothing for the Northern Cheyenne, and traveled to the Rosebud Battlefield. As part of our welcome, we strive to learn about our LGBT+ neighbors, and strive to be a "Green" church. The journey continues!
Our community is full of people who generously donate their time and talent. For six years now, our church has sponsored a one hour concert held the Last Friday of the month. Concerts are free, and any donations are given towards Sheridan College Music Scholarships. We look forward to welcoming you into our historic space to enjoy the Last Friday at First Congregational Free Concerts every last Friday of the month 5:30pm-6:30pm, excepting November, which is Sheridan Community Stroll night.
We are keenly aware that compared to the rest of God's children around the world, we live in abundance. For this reason, we make helping others part of our annual budget. This includes such things as Project Schoolhouse in Nicaragua, training doctors in Africa and sending representatives to support justice and equality for all through Our Churches Wider Mission.
